This is a repeat telecast, I fully agree with you. More needs to be done about that than simply filtering words. Word filters are very easy to make loopholes with anyway, so the impact of creating a chat filter would be minimal.

If you take a closer look at the usernames in the screenshots, you can see that they’re using a different language’s keyboard to type out the offensive username. They’ll take characters from different keyboards (such as θ, Θ, ΰ, Ф, я, Ш, етc.) that look like the English letters they need, and type it out that way. They do it with accented letters too (such as Ä, ñ, Ê, Ì, Ø, Ū) to fly under the radar as well, so if they can find ways to bypass these filters, it won’t be hard for them to do it.
